IN ECSTASY SUMMARY

‘In Ecstasy’ by Kate McCaffrey’s is targeted towards students in the 15-18-age bracket. The book illustrates a number of important issues teenagers may face, with great emphasis about teen drug abuse. ‘In Ecstasy’ looks at teen drug abuse in an honest and raw way, by alternating perspectives of Mia and Sophie that were said to be best friends forever. The Author illustrates a view of the characters, with Sophie being a gorgeous and irresistible girl and Mia being funny but insecure and is in Sophie’s shadow. As the novel progresses, the two girls drift apart as Sophie removes from the drug/party life, however Mia becomes more and more involved in the world of drugs and parties, which affects her life and even her health. The author used certain language that represents the teenage life in today’s society to help connect the text with the reader. The type of language used in the book was quite informal, using many slang words.  Kate McCaffery also used many different descriptive words to make the text meaningful to the reader, therefore the purpose of emphasizing the dangers of drugs were achieved. I believe this is a good book to read in a high school English lesson, as there are many messages throughout the whole book.  After reading the book in ecstasy, it made me relies, the dangers of taking drugs, and how easy one party can change you life forever. One mistake of taking drugs, can lead to relying on it all the time, and becoming a different person. I believe this book made me relies that these situations happen a lot in today’s society. More people are becoming peer pressured, and wanting to experience taking drugs, due to what people say such as, how good they are. I believe that you never really here the bad things about taking drugs, but in this book it demonstrates what affects drugs can do to your life. I believe the book made me understand a persons world that are on drugs, as it was a story, which showed how the characters changed from a innocent person who loved and cared for her family and friends to a character that only thinks about herself and how important taking drugs is, not realizing what it is doing to the people that really loves her.
